Junior Indian team to tour Russia and England

Dipsan Tirkey named as captain for the tour
With one eye on the upcoming Junior Hockey World Cup, Hockey India has announced the tour to Russia and England where the India's young guns will test their preparation for the World Cup.

Junior Indian hockey team will be led by Kalinga Lancers defender Dipsan Tirkey while penalty corner expert Varun Kumar has been named as the vice-captain of the side.

Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2016- Indian team announced

Indian team for Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2016
Hockey India today announced the 18 member team for upcoming Sultan Azlan Shah Cup which will feature the likes of Australia, New Zealand and arch-rivals Pakistan. 29 year old Sardar Singh will lead the side for the tournament while striker SV Sunil will be vice-captain of the side in the absence of goalkeeper PR Sreejesh who has been rested for the tournament.

Also rested for the tournament is defender and ace drag-flicker VR Raghunath who will be replaced by young Harmanpreet Singh who has impressed the coach and selectors with his performance with junior team and Hockey India League. Midfielder

Second Hockey India Annual Awards; Sreejesh, Manpreet in line for top prize

Initiative to recognize and reward top performers of year enters 2nd year as Hockey India announces the nominations for its Annual Awards which will be held in Bengaluru on 26th March. 

Along with rewarding the top players of the year, Hockey India will also facilitate the women hockey team and the support which qualified for the Olympics for the first time since 1980. The junior team will be facilitated for winning Junior Asia Cup while senior men team will be recognized for winning bronze in Hockey World League finals.

Hockey Champions Trophy 2016 which was supposed to be played in Argentina has now been shifted to England’s Olympic Park after the contract between FIH and CAF (Argentina Hockey Federation) to host the tournament was cancelled due to undisclosed reasons.

Schedule of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2016 announced


Seven teams to participate in the tournament this time

Sultan Azlan Shah Cup which will host its 25th edition this year will feature 7 teams this year instead of usual 6. The tournament organizers were hoping to celebrate the silver jubilee edition featuring 8 teams but the Olympics preparations of top teams like Germany and Netherlands forced the organizers to have this edition a 7 team affair.

The 2016 edition of the tournament will have the likes of Japan, India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and hosts Malaysia participating.
